Another slum outreach.
We are very excited to share with you the great news from the last week's special outreach with a few boys.
we do special outreaches basically to meet some boys who need much time, help and establishing a closer relationship with them so that it is easy for us to see the best way we can try help them and re-unite them with their families.
We encourage resettlements that way its easy for the boys to re- connect with their families because it is vital for children to know who they are and where they belong and family is the best for every child.
some boys are still having challenges and are not willing to go home and we just pray and hope they can accept to be resettled and that the resettlements can work out.
This is Allan, and we are very happy to share with you all, that Allan opened up and would love us to resettle him back with his parents.
we pray for Allan as he asked us for more time so as to be ready on the November 16th because it is the date he asked us to resettle him back with his family.
thank you all for your prayers.

Habbia and Regan talking. It is so amazing to see so many people try to come up and share with the boys.

Regan and Abdul enjoying a Meal.

This is Ian, a boy we introduced to you a few months and weeks back who is back to the streets, we managed to find him and continued to speak to him to see how best we can help him.
Ian still needs prayers so as to open up and be able to learn how to respect and obey his elders.
That picture was taken from a place where he works and earns some money to buy him a meal.
from the simple talk we had from him, we realized Ian enjoys the streets and he is still young and unaware of how bad the streets are because he manages to buy himself food and the influence so many people put in him which we can not explain to him in one day to understand and we ask you all to kindly say prayers for him and for God to guide us and show us the best way of how to help Ian.
Thank you.
Hello Friends,
we are very excited to share with you the great joy we all felt after having known that Benjamin is doing his senior four Examinations.
We are very thankful to God for enabling his Dad forgive him and welcoming him and accepting to put him in school.
Thank you so much for all the prayers.
Hello Friends.
we are very happy to share with you what happens in the lives of the boys.
Thanks to Uncle Lawrence and Aunt Mary for the time they spent with the boys last week.
Spending time with the boys helped us learn them more and see how best we can help them achieve their dreams and to teach them how to behave and conduct themselves in society.
we are glad that the boys are transform and behaving well.
Thank you for the prayers.

Meeting with Habiba (Kitante High School)
Flavia and Richard yesterday visited Kitante Hill High School, Flavia and Abdul’s old school. It was a great experience to witness how old girls and boys connect with their former school’s administration in support for the children in poor communities.
Habiba an old girl of the school too, expressed a great interest on behalf of the school Administration to work with mercy alive Africa in giving care and support to street children in Kampala. Soon next week Habiba who is a member of the school administration will visit mercy alive Africa shelter in Nankulabye, have a slum visit to the areas of Kivulu and Makerere to witness the work already done by mercy alive Africa and other NGOs in the slums plus the current situation of the children on the streets of Kampala.
Afterwards the two parties will work on a plan which will connect the school to the community through mercy alive Africa activities, more of this plan will be discussed in our report and newsletters soon.
Habiba thank you so much for inviting mercy alive Africa volunteers visit Kitante High School and to discuss with you the organizations plans to work with such institutions. Your ideas were so positive and hope to work with you and the Kitante High School in future for the better of our nation Uganda.

Abdul Salaam:
Abdul is 15 years old, he became a resident of mercy alive Africa shelter in August 2014 after being picked from Kivulu slums during the outreach activities. He had fever and physical wounds on his body especially on the legs which were dressed. Abdul used to move barefooted to collect scrap.
While at mercy Alive Africa shelter, Abdul was interested in drawing and reading plus playing football, after observing his characters, he was re-united with his family in April 2015 at Kasubi a suburb of Kampala city.
Immediately started his studies at Kasubi Primary school in Primary four, Mercy Alive Africa volunteers always visited Abdul at both his home and at school to make sure that he is well and enjoys school.
Unfortunately during the previous second term holidays, his aunt at home started abusing him which involved beatings and verbal assaults, Abdul run away from their home and went back to the streets in Kivulu slums which are just three kilometers away from their home in Kasubi, we met Abdul again during our recent outreach programs and shared his stories with the volunteers he has since then expressed his great interest to go back to school and meet with his family but efforts to be done to persuade his aunt to love and care for him as a child.

Mercy Alive Africa’s staff (Flavia and Richard) yesterday (10th/10/2015) evening met with Mr. Simon Iga a Kampala music mistral who shared and provided ideas of starting a music program with the street boys at the shelter. It was a great experience to learn of new ways of having the boys learn a new skill in music which could occupy the organization’s education and vocational skills service to the street boys, a lot more of this meeting/minutes will be discussed in our next news issue a few days from now.

Its mercy alive Africa’s responsibility together with other organizations to mentor, guide and provide counseling to these street kids for a better conduct transformation. A 13 year old Ian Mutyaba one of the resident boys at mercy alive Africa has moved in with one of the families in Kivulu slums. Recently Ian's behaviors had changed to the worst! By moving out of the house and coming back at night without permission from the elders or even noticing his fellow resident friends, stealing money meant to purchase house requirements from the volunteer's  wallets

Ian was stealing because he used that money to buy food while in the slums on his escape routines, he had been attracted to start working by some street boys because he wanted to earn money they had also told him that he will not start school as promised by mercy Alive Africa staff, We are sure he believed this because he had spent three months waiting while at the house ( this is a minimal rehabilitation period for any street kid that is moved into the house, to observe his patience, conduct, willingness to study as efforts are being made to get him a sponsor).
Currently he has started living with Ismail's family a guy that runs a video game business as his attendant and promised to be paying him some money as salary, we had to agree because we respect these children's decisions and the community’s involvement in our work. However we will continue to monitor his conduct through our outreach programs in the slums.
Dear friends, we kindly ask you to pray for Mercy Alive Africa’s progress and Ian's well-being, hope that during his stay with this new family will improve his characters and escape the bad influence from the spoilt street boys, after one month we will be able to tell if his moving in with the new family has made some good impact on him.
Despite of this, one of the challenges is the influence and promises people make to these boys while on the streets and still when we move them into our shelter, so we find it very hard still since the people influencing them still go on to look for them and confuse their minds.
Reaching out to more street children in Kampala..
Mercy Alive Africa 26th/09/2015 Saturday Outreach Program:
With the aim to proclaim children from the streets of Kampala, Mercy Alive Africa uses several approaches to tackle this problem including the Saturday outreach program. Today’s outreach program started at exactly 7:00am in the morning when the street kids from the slums around Kampala were arriving at Katwe Primary School play-groundwhile the volunteers had started preparing the day’s activities starting with cooking.
It’s been a great experience even though there has been some obstacles, we are happy that the volunteers showed their good team work skills when moments such the water shortage in the area and the school teachers who had wanted to cancel the event, arose!
The event was graced with a prayer by one of the former street kid Ian who is currently under the care and support of Mercy Alive Africa shelter, activities such as playing soccer, games, washing clothes and bathing, bible class, medical care to the street kids, prayers followed as planed in the program.
It’s still sad and hurting to see many of the boys addicted to drugs and use aviation fuel, This makes it hard because many of them are very depressed and lonely. Many of them say “They use the drugs mainly to escape coldness and to feel stronger” we pray for the community to also come in on this.
Much thanks to our visiting friends from the United Kingdom Alice and Peter the time you have spent with these street kids is priceless and the words of wisdom have been encouraging and motivationalwe shall always pray for your kindness.
The gift of medical supplies have relieved the pain on their wounds, the remaining medical items will be used for the outreach programs.
On behalf of mercy alive Africa
Flavia
